Joan Clarke was an English cryptanalyst and numismatist who worked as a code-breaker at Bletchley Park during World War II. She was a member of the Enigma project that decrypted Nazi Germany's secret communications and a pioneer of Banburismus, a cryptanalytic process developed by Alan Turing. She also studied the Scottish coinage of the 16th and 17th centuries.
