Hill, Joel Scott (19 August 1938-Present) Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Naples, Texas, who was reared in San Diego, California, and was making records by the time he was in his early twenties. In 1959, he and his band, The Strangers, scored an instrumental hit with “Caterpillar Crawl”.

Joel Scott Hill. American rock & roll / blues rock guitarist, harmonica player and singer / songwriter. Born in 1939 in Mount Pleasant (Texas) but moved to San Diego (California) when he was 8, where he formed his first band at Linda Vista High School in 1957. Made early recordings in 1958 with The Rebels (20) for Doré.
Joel Scott Hill, who had played with the Strangers and the Joel Scott Hill Trio, was recruited to fill the void left by Wilson's death. They hired former Byrds drummer Gene Parsons, guitarist Joel Scott Hill from Canned Heat, and fiddler Gib Guilbeau to round out the "refried" Burritos. Tickner then got the new band a deal with Columbia Records, of which Flying Again was their label debut.
