Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (* 14. Januar 1798 in Zwolle; † 4. Juni 1872 in Den Haag) war ein liberaler niederländischer Politiker und Staatstheoretiker. Thorbecke gilt als Begründer der parlamentarischen Monarchie in den Niederlanden und als bedeutendster Staatsmann des Landes im 19. Jahrhundert.

Johan Rudolph Thorbecke (14 January 1798 – 4 June 1872) was a Dutch liberal statesman, one of the most important Dutch politicians of the 19th century. Thorbecke is best known for heading the commission that drafted the revision of the Constitution of the Netherlands in 1848, amidst the liberal democratic revolutions of 1848.

De liberale politicus Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (1798-1872), is bekend geworden als de grondlegger van het tegenwoordige Nederlandse staatsbestel. Vóór zijn politieke loopbaan maakte Thorbecke een universitaire carrière. In 1825 werd hij hoogleraar wijsbegeerte en letteren in Gent.

The liberal politician Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (1798-1872), is celebrated as the founder of the present-day constitution of the Netherlands. Prior to entering the political arena Thorbecke pursued an academic career. He became a professor of philosophy and literature at Ghent University in 1825.
