Johann von Staupitz OESA/OSB war ein katholischer, reformorientierter Theologe, der vor allem als Förderer und Beichtvater des jungen Martin Luther bekannt ist.
Als Generalvikar der deutschen Observanten-Kongregation des Augustinerordens bemühte Staupitz sich um Reformen im Orden, was auf Widerstand stieß. 1520 wurde er des Ordensamtes enthoben und kam als Prediger an den Dom in Salzburg.
