John Bennett Perry ist der einzige Sohn des Bankdirektors Alton Lawrence Ulric Perry (1906–2003) und dessen Frau Maria Schaefer Bennett (1906–1971) und wuchs in Williamstown im US-Bundesstaat Massachusetts auf. Nach seinem High-School-Abschluss studierte er zunächst einige Zeit lang Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der St. Lawrence University.
Perry was born on January 4, 1941, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, [1] the son of businessman, bank director and civic leader Alton L. Perry (1906–2003) and Maria (née Bennett, 1910–1970). [2] He attended college at St. Lawrence University, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
