Church of Anthrax is a collaborative studio album by musicians John Cale and Terry Riley. It was released in February 1971 by record label CBS , nearly a year after the material was recorded. It followed Riley's success with 1969's A Rainbow in Curved Air and Cale's influential work with the Velvet Underground .

17. Juni 2017 · Cale’s collaboration with minimalist composer Terry Riley is a sometimes stunning example of avant-garde music at its best. Kronomyth 2.0: Minimal Violence. The first work that John Cale recorded after his emergence from the Velvet Underground was a collaboration with the minimalist composer, Terry Riley.
Both John Cale (born on December 3, 1940) and Terry Riley (born on June 24, 1935) were students of avant-garde composer LaMonte Young. Cale turned to rock with the Velvet Underground, but returned to his contemporary classical background in teaming up with Riley for their sole recorded collaboration, Church of Anthrax, in 1971.
