John C. Harsanyi is a Nobel laureate in economics who made groundbreaking contributions to game theory and welfare economics. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1920 and immigrated to Australia in 1950. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Sydney in 1953 and became a professor at various universities in the US and Australia. He died in 2000.
