24. Mai 2024 · John Russell, 1st Earl Russell (born Aug. 18, 1792, London, Eng.—died May 28, 1878, Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Park, Surrey) was the prime minister of Great Britain (1846–52, 1865–66), an aristocratic liberal and leader of the fight for passage of the Reform Bill of 1832.

Russell erbte 1987 den Titel Earl Russell und damit den damals erblichen Sitz im House of Lords mit dem Tode seines Halbbruders, John Russell, 4. Earl Russell. Er war der erste Parlamentarier der Liberal Democrats, welche im Jahre 1988 gegründet wurden. Russell war lange Zeit Sprecher der neuen Partei in verschiedenen Gebieten.
Verleihung und nachgeordnete Titel. Die Verleihung erfolgte am 30. Juli 1861 an den zweimaligen britischen Premierminister und liberalen Politiker John Russell.. Zusammen mit der Earlswürde wurde ihm, ebenfalls zur Peerage of the United Kingdom, der nachgeordnete Titel eines Viscount Amberley, of Amberley in the County of Gloucester and of Ardsalla in the County of Meath, verliehen.
