For almost three decades, Jon Postel was RFC Editor, shepherding drafts through the open consensus processes that characterize Internet development efforts. For many, Jon’s greatest contribution to the Internet was his role in creating the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).
Jon Postel was a key figure in the development and evolution of the Internet, from its early protocols to its standards. He was a documenter, co-developer, editor, and advocate of conservative protocol design and specification. He also co-founded the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and Postel Center, a research center at ISI.
Jon Postel was the Director of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and a key figure in the development and growth of the Internet. He passed away in October 1998 and was remembered by ARIN as a friend, mentor and visionary.
