Joseph Liouville wächst in seinen ersten Lebensjahren bei einem Onkel auf, da sein Vater als Offizier der napoleonischen Armee an den Feldzügen durch Europa teilnimmt. März 2024 · Joseph Liouville (born March 24, 1809, Saint-Omer, France—died September 8, 1882, Paris) was a French mathematician known for his work in analysis, differential geometry, and number theory and for his discovery of transcendental numbers—i.e., numbers that are not the roots of algebraic equations having rational coefficients. He was also influential as a journal editor and teacher.
Biography. Joseph Liouville's father was an army captain in Napoleon's army so Joseph had to spend the first few years of his life with his uncle. His father was certainly fortunate to survive the wars and after Napoleon was defeated he retired to live with his family. The family then settled in Toul where Joseph attended school.
