Joseph P. Jr. (1915-1944) war der älteste Sohn der Kennedys. Seine ehrgeizigen Eltern hatten große politische Pläne mit ihm. Doch am 12. August 1944 starb Joseph P. Jr. im Zweiten Weltkrieg bei einer Flugzeugexplosion über dem Ärmelkanal. Er wurde posthum als Held gefeiert.
