Julian Huxley was a naturalist, educator and humanist who made significant contributions to human understanding of the world around us. He was the first director-general of UNESCO and the president of the British Humanist Association. He believed that a knowledge of evolutionary biology could help humans to understand themselves and their place in the world. He also promoted humanism as a framework for living and a rights-based social order.
