Juraj Herz (4. září 1934 Kežmarok – 8. dubna 2018) byl slovenský režisér, scenárista a herec židovského původu. Pocházel ze židovské rodiny, byl pokřtěn, pak byl ateistou. Studoval fotografii na Umělecko-průmyslové škole v Bratislavě a později režii a loutkoherectví na DAMU v Praze.

The Cremator (Czech: Spalovač mrtvol) is a 1969 Czechoslovak dark comedy horror film directed by Juraj Herz, based on a novel by Ladislav Fuks. The screenplay was written by Herz and Fuks. The film was selected as the Czechoslovakian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 42nd Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

Juraj Herz, one of the most unique voices to come out of the Czech New Wave, has sadly died at the age of 83. He left an important legacy to Czechoslovakian cinema, much of which is still under-explored outside of his native homeland. He will always be remembered for his dark Gothic comedy
