Karel De Gucht. Karel De Gucht (Overmere, 27 de enero de 1954) es un político europeo de origen belga, exministro de Asuntos Exteriores de su país, ex comisario europeo de Desarrollo y Ayuda Humanitaria y actual Comisario europeo de Comercio en la Comisión Barroso II .
Karel De Gucht is sinds zijn studentenjaren actief in de liberale beweging, onder andere als voorzitter van het Liberaal Vlaams Studentenverbond. Reeds op 26-jarige leeftijd (in 1980) wordt hij Europees parlementslid. In 1994 werd hij lid van de Belgische Senaat als provinciaal senator van de provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, wat hij bleef tot in 1995.
