Gossip was formed in 1999 in Olympia, Washington, by vocalist Beth Ditto, guitarist Nathan "Brace Paine" Howdeshell, and drummer Kathy Mendonça. All three were originally from Searcy, Arkansas ; Mendonça moved to Olympia to attend Evergreen State College and Howdeshell and Ditto followed. [2]

10. Feb. 2024 · September, verließ Schlagzeugerin Kathy Mendonça die Band, um eine Karriere als Hebamme zu verfolgen. Die etablierte Punk-Schlagzeugerin Hannah Blilie kam als Ersatz zu ihnen. Die Band ließ daraufhin das „The“ aus ihrem Namen fallen und setzte als einfaches „Gossip“ fort.
26. März 2019 · Am 5. Juli sind Beth Ditto, Nathan Howdeshell und Kathy Mendonça alias Gossip im Palladium in Köln und am 6. Juli im Tempodrom in Berlin live zu erleben. Der Vorverkauf startet am Freitag, den 29. März um 10 Uhr auf eventim.de.
Kurz danach verließ die Schlagzeugerin Kathy Mendonca die Band, um zukünftig als Hebamme zu arbeiten. Öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit erlangt die Gruppe in dieser Zeit durch die teilweise deutlichen Texte und ihrem Engagement gegen die Wiederwahl von George W. Bush.
