  4. Leon Golub was born on January 23rd, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois where he attended the University of Chicago. He served in WWII and saw the barbarity of the Nazi concentration camps. When he returned from the war, he met his future wife, artist Nancy Spero (1926-2009), when they were both students at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he graduated in 1950 with an MFA.
