31. Aug. 2021 · Lon Morris College was the oldest junior college in Texas, founded in 1854 and closed in 2012. It was a Methodist school in Jacksonville, accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
Lon Morris College filed for bankruptcy on July 2, 2012. [4] The 112-acre campus was auctioned on January 14, 2013 in Dallas, Texas; the primary purchasers were a local school district an an office supply company.
16. Aug. 2009 · Hundreds of schools were established in East Texas before the Civil War; Lon Morris College alone still exists as the oldest two year college in the entire state. This month marks its 100th anniversary as a junior college in its current location.
Lon Morris College offers over 30 majors in three divisions of studies. Students can choose from three Associate degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, and Sciences. 98% of LMC graduates transfer to 4-year universities.
Lon Morris offers the first two years of a four-year degree. 90% of all students live on campus in one of several residence halls, and most students are the traditional college age. Change is made easy because you’re not alone. There’s something here for everyone.
