Louis Jacques Thénard (May 4, 1777 in the village of La Louptière, Aube - June 21, 1857 in Paris), was a French chemist. His father, a poor peasant, managed to have him educated at the academy of Sens, and sent him at the age of sixteen to study pharmacy in Paris.

When quite young he went to Paris, and sought permission to work at chemistry with Vauquelin as his master.
