Mario Molina was a Nobel Prize-winning chemist who discovered that chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) could destroy the ozone layer in the stratosphere. He and his mentor F. Mario J. Molina is a Mexican-American physical chemist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1995 for his research on the environmental impact of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other substances. He received his Ph.D. from UNAM and did his postdoctoral work at Berkeley, where he worked with Sherry Rowland on the CFC-ozone depletion theory. He also studied molecular dynamics, laser spectroscopy, and photochemistry.
