As a public servant, Marion G. Romney first worked for the post office before later becoming an assistant prosecuting attorney in Salt Lake City. He then campaigned and won a seat in the Utah House of Representatives in 1934. He served only one term, after which he decided not to run again, instead answering the call to serve as a bishop.
20. Mai 1988 · President Marion G. Romney, 90-year-old president of the Council of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Friday morning at his Salt Lake home of causes incident to age. His funeral will be Monday at noon in the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

Marion G. Romney was born in the Latter-day Saint community of Colonia Juárez in Mexico and lived there until he was about 15 years old. A political revolution that began in 1910 forced the Romneys and others to leave everything behind and flee to the United States. “We had a difficult time making a living,” President Romney recalled. “We had to root hog or die.”
