Marjory Garland (1923–1991) replaced Mary Lou Cook after Ride 'Em Cowboy was filmed. The Merry Macs continued to score on the hit parade; their version of "Mairzy Doats" was a best-seller. Garland, who later married Judd McMichael, remained with the group for two decades. Imogene Lynn was the group's female lead singer in 1946–1947.
Marjory Garland stepped in for Mary Lou Cook in 1941 and spent the next 22 years with the Macs, eventually marrying one (Judd). Known for their bouncy pop tunes, the Merry Macs were also polished jazz stylists, as one listen to their 1940 single "Vol Vistu Gaily Star" will prove.
By that time, Cook had also left the group; her replacement, Marjory Garland, became a permanent member. The advent of America's involvement in World War II forced Joe into the service, while Lynn Allen served as his temporary replacement.
