Mathew Carey (January 28, 1760 – September 16, 1839) was an Irish-born American publisher and economist who lived and worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In Dublin, he had engaged in the cause of parliamentary reform, and in America, attracting the wrath of Federalists, retained his democratic sympathies.

Mathew Carey was a printer, publisher, bookseller, and political economist who printed and sold more books and Bibles than any other publisher in the United States in the early nineteenth century. He also wrote a revisionist history of Ireland, a revisionist history of the Constitution, and a revisionist history of the Jay Treaty. He campaigned for a central bank, tariffs, and improvements to America's roads and canals. He was an ardent nationalist and a promoter of democracy, egalitarianism and capitalism.
