Mersey Beat war eine britische Musikzeitschrift, die von Bill Harry ab 1961 herausgegeben wurde und die sich mit der Musikszene der frühen 1960er Jahre in Liverpool befasste. Später wurde der Name als Synonym für diese Musikszene gebraucht, die ursprünglich als Liverpool Sound oder Mersey Sound bezeichnet wurde. Patten's later solo collections, Storm Damage (1988) and Armada (1996), are more varied, the latter featuring a sequence of poems concerning the death of his mother and memories of his childhood.
