Louie Bellson (born Luigi Paolino Alfredo Francesco Antonio Balassoni, July 6, 1924 – February 14, 2009), often seen in sources as Louis Bellson, although he himself preferred the spelling Louie, was an American jazz drummer. He was a composer, arranger, bandleader, and jazz educator, and is credited with pioneering the use of two bass drums.
Luigi Paulino Alfredo Francesco Antonio Balassoni (* 6. Juli 1924 in Rock Falls, Illinois; † 14. Februar 2009 in Los Angeles, Kalifornien) war ein US-amerikanischer Jazz - Schlagzeuger, Komponist und Arrangeur, der unter dem Namen Louie Bellson bekannt wurde. Laut Richard Cook war er der letzte der großen Swing -Schlagzeuger.

Feb. 2009 · Louie Bellson, one of the last headline drummers of the big band era whose twin bass drums and high-energy beat-keeping thrilled audiences and powered orchestras ranging from Benny Goodman to Duke Ellington, died on February 14. He was 84 and had been recovering at home from a broken hip.
