L. Subramaniam has received numerous awards for his playing and compositions, and is among the first Indians ever to release a compact disc. He is a son of V. Lakshminarayana , nephew of Ramnad Raghavan and Ramnad Krishnan , and the husband of first wife Viji Subramaniam and of second wife Kavita Krishnamurthy .

The two tunes on which he displays his awesome virtuosity (and inspires Strunz and Farah to similar heights of their own) sound like the greatest Mahavishnu Orchestra tracks Mahavishnu never recorded.
