Italien nahm bereits am ersten Eurovision Song Contest im Jahr 1956 teil. Allerdings wurden, abgesehen vom Schweizer Sieg, die restlichen Platzierungen nie bekannt gemacht. 1957 erreichte Italien einen sechsten Platz von zehn Teilnehmern.
