Bis heute wird der RnB im Mainstream als afroamerikanische Musik bezeichnet. Popmusik wurde mit Soul kombiniert und in den 1980er und 1990er Jahren durch Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Maria Carey, Prince und Lionel Richie vertreten.
