Nassau William Senior (/ ˈ s iː n i ər /; 26 September 1790 – 4 June 1864), was an English lawyer known as an economist. He was also a government adviser over several decades on economic and social policy on which he wrote extensively.

William Nassau Senior was the first professor of political economy at Oxford University, occupying the first such chair in England. Through his work he made significant contributions to the theories of rent, population , money , and international trade.
Nassau William Senior was an influential critic of Malthus’ and Ricardo’s assumptions and made important contributions to the theory of international trade. Senior practised law in London before entering academia, living from 1821 onwards at 32 Kensington Square.
