Und zwar in ärmlichen Verhältnissen, denn das Einkommen des Vaters reichte kaum aus, die Familie mit Mutter Nelle Wilson und dem älteren Sohn Neil zu ernähren. In ihrer kleinen Wohnung an der Durchgangsstraße fehlte es an fließendem Wasser und an mehreren eigentlich notwendigen Installationen.
