SGT Nicholas Porter Earp. Father of legendary Earp brothers of Tombstone, Arizona. In 1847 Nicholas joined the Illinois Mounted Volunteers to serve under his neighbor and commanding officer, Wyatt Berry Stapp. On March 19, 1848, Nicholas had a fourth son that he bestowed with the full name of his commanding officer.

Nicholas Porter Earp (6 September 1813 – 12 February 1907) was an American justice of the peace and wagon-master of the Wild West and the father of Virgil, Wyatt, and Morgan Earp.
Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp was born on March 19, 1848, the fourth child of Nicholas Porter Earp and his second wife, Virginia Ann Cooksey. He was named after his father's commanding officer in the Mexican–American War, Captain Wyatt Berry Stapp, of the 2nd Company Illinois Mounted Volunteers.
