Nintendo Research & Development 2, shortened: Nintendo R&D2, was one of Nintendo's three original development groups. Led by Masayuki Uemura, the group focused on creating hardware in it's early years. They would often collaborate with Nintendo R&D1 on arcade games and the Game & Watch series. They were also responsible with porting many of Nintendo's popular arcade games to the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Late in the Game Boy Color's life cycle, R&D2 was put in charge of porting old games to the handheld. They continued with this when the Game Boy Advance came out.
