Oakland is a city in California. It is across the bay from San Francisco. It is the county seat of Alameda County and the third-largest city in the Bay Area, after San Jose and San Francisco. At one time, Oakland had many factories that built cars, ships and airplanes. It is a major seaport and rail junction.
Städtebaulich gehen die Gemeinden beinahe nahtlos ineinander über. Oakland liegt 13 m über Meereshöhe und hat 440.000 Einwohner. Die Stadt ist mit San Francisco über die San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge verbunden und liegt nur 12 km östlich der Metropole am der Westufer der großen Bucht.
