On Border Radio, Vol. 1. The Carter Family. Digital Download9.99. CD12.98. In 1938 and 1939, the first family of American country music, the Carter Family, recorded transcriptions for radio broadcast on Mexican border radio stations.
The Carter Family's transcription discs for the border radio station came to light in 1963. During that year my parents, Eleanor and Al- lan Kahn, were spending a portion of each year in Mexico, and I was working on my doctoral dissertation on the Carter Family at the Uni- versity of California at Los Angeles.
