Solo artist 1940's to 1960's before withdrawing from music for several years. Comeback in 1973 at the Newport Jazz Festival and remained musically active until her death.

He tried to get her to come work with him on the spot, but when she saw that the pay was no more than she was already making, she decided it wasn’t worth the hassle.
