Otto Gross war aus Psychiatrie habilitiert und bemüht, eine Synthese zwischen Psychoanalyse, Psychiatrie und Nietzscheanischer Philosophie zu entwerfen. Er zählt zu den ersten Autoren, die über Psychoanalyse veröffentlichten. Freud schätzte ihn durchaus. Allerdings wurde er nie Mitglied der WPV.
Otto Gross war theoriebegründend in Medizin und Psychologie sowie besonders in der Persönlichkeitspsychologie tätig und trat für eine mutterrechtlich strukturierte Gesellschaft ein.
