After studying at the Our Lady Queen of Angels Seminary and St. John's Seminary, Mahony was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Fresno on May 1, 1962, by Bishop Aloysius Joseph Willinger. Mahony graduated from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1964 with a Master of Social Work degree.
As a program of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Queen of Angels seeks to form seminarians committed to an ongoing relationship with Jesus and to foster a spirit of generous service for God’s people. Queen of Angels encourages seminarians to grow in apostolic zeal to be missionary disciples.
In 1907, Our Lady of Angels Seminary was opened. Serving the Sacred Heart Province and, for some years, the far western province of Santa Barbara, California, it was the house of philosophy and theology for the clerics who were studying for the priesthood.
I graduated and then moved on to my seminary formation at St. John’s Seminary College in Camarillo. During that period of time, I felt that God was calling me to serve Him as a missionary. So in the summer of 1992, I joined the Divine Word Missionaries and became attached to their Chicago Province.
