Ovide Decroly (born July 23, 1871, Renaix, Belg.—died Sept. 10, 1932, Brussels) was a Belgian pioneer in the education of children, including those with physical disabilities. Through his work as a physician, Decroly became involved in a school for disabled children and consequently became interested in education.

Our contribution focuses on the neurologist and educational psychologist Ovide Decroly, as a scholarly persona, and deals with the financing of scientific research as well as the financial status of researchers themselves. After all, scientific practice, the production and spread of “truth”, costs money.

Jean-Ovide Decroly (Ronse, 23 July 1871 – Uccle, 10 September 1932) was a Belgian teacher and psychologist. He studied medicine at the University of Ghent, with half a year at the University of Berlin where he studied the action of toxins and antitoxins on general nutrition in 1898.
