Biografi. Pat Nixons far var en gruvarbetare som sadlade om till lantbrukare. Han flyttade med familjen till Artesia i Kalifornien när Pat var ett år gammal. Namnet Pat var ett smeknamn som hennes far gav henne. När hon började på college slutade hon använda namnet Thelma och kallade sig istället Pat, eller ibland Patricia.
1969-1974. As a woman who had worked hard to support herself through college, Nevada-born Thelma Catherine “Pat” Ryan Nixon was a staunch advocate of the Equal Rights Amendment. During her husband Richard Nixon’s vice presidency under President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953–61) and during his own presidency, she visited over eighty countries.
Pat Nixon was determined to improve the authenticity of the White House as a historic site in its own right and museum. Beyond the well-publicised efforts of former First Lady, Jaqueline Kennedy , Pat Nixon added some 600 paintings and antiques to the Executive Mansion and its collections – the largest acquisition by any administration.
