Prof Paul Cairns is a Professor of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and a leading expert in research methods for interactive technologies, user experience, player experience and games for health and wellbeing. He has a strong track record in diverse research methods across domains of user experience, human error, statistics and mathematical modelling in HCI, and has co-edited and published several books on the topic.

Paul has been Deputy Head of Department with responsibility for Research since 2019, and will take over as Head of Department in March 2021 when Professor Neil Audsley departs York to join City, University of London.
