Paul Eugène Pelliot war ein französischer Sinologe und Zentralasienforscher. Er leitete mehrere archäologische Expeditionen nach Zentralasien und wurde im Zuge seiner Forschungen zum Gründer der mongolischen Geschichtsforschung, der Mongolistik. Er war Schüler von Sylvain Lévi.

Pelliot Collection. This collection is comprised of the manuscripts, printed documents, paintings and artefacts that Paul Pelliot obtained between 1906 and 1909. For three years, the French Sinologist Paul Pelliot (1878–1945) led an expedition from Paris to Beijing, crossing Central Asia.
20. Juli 2002 · Pelliot was a pioneer in the study of Central Asian languages, religions and history, especially Manicheism, Nestorianism and Mongol Empire. He collected and edited many manuscripts from Dunhuang and other sources, and served as a Sinologist and a military attaché in China.
Pelliot, an unequaled acquirer of languages and an incomparable bibliographer, was trained in Sinology but devoted his chief attention to the Inner Asian side of China. He first aspired to a career in the foreign service, and to that end took up the study of Chinese at the École des Langues Orientales Vivantes.
French Sinology has lost one of its most brilliant scholars in the. recent death of Paul Pelliot. Born in 1878, he received his university training at the Sorbonne, where he majored in English and acquired a general philological back ground. In addition, he studied Chinese at the School of Oriental Lan. guages in Paris.
