8. Apr. 2022 · Electra funded the recording of a second album, 1971’s ‘Jack Knife Gypsy’, which matched the artistic high of his debut but with a band built around guitarist Clarence White. Again, commercial success was not forthcoming, and Paul Siebel became depressed and succumbed to some bad ‘70s habits.
Paul Karl Siebel (September 19, 1937 – April 5, 2022) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Buffalo, New York. He is best known for other artists' cover versions of his songs, most notably "Louise".
Clarence was too busy to take on much non-Byrds work in ’71, but Paul Siebel‘s “Pinto Pony” is definitely worth mentioning. From Siebel’s overlooked Jack-Knife Gypsy LP, it features White and friend/guitar protege, Bob Warford , trading leads on what sound like dueling B-Benders.
