1841. Philipp Batz (Mainländer ist sein Pseudonym) wird am 5. Oktober in Offenbach am Main als jüngstes von fünf Geschwistern in eine Unternehmerfamilie geboren. 1856-58. Mainländer setzt nach dem Besuch der Realschule in Offenbach seine Ausbildung auf der Handelsschule in Dresden fort.
