Pieter de Groot (28 March 1615 – 2 June 1678) was a Dutch regent and diplomat during the First Stadtholderless Period of the Dutch Republic. He led the Dutch delegation that vainly tried to negotiate the Dutch capitulation to King Louis XIV of France during the Year of Disaster, 1672.

Pieter de Groot ( Rotterdam, 28 maart 1615 - Boekenrode bij Haarlem, 2 juni 1678) was de tweede zoon van Hugo de Groot en Maria van Reigensbergen. Als kind doorstond hij ternauwernood een ernstige ziekte; hij bleef zwak, liep mank en had een pokdalig gezicht.
Pieter de Groot, universally known as " Big Piet " , is a bear of a man from the city-state of Marienburg; he is well over six feet tall and powerfully built. His sandy hair and beard are close-cropped, and his blue eyes look somehow too small for his square face.
21. Sept. 2022 · Pieter de Groot werd in 1672 mede het mikpunt omdat hij de zoon was van Hugo de Groot, de beroemde stadspensionaris van Rotterdam, rechtsgeleerde en diplomaat Grotius. Hij was in conflict gekomen met stadhouder Maurits, die hem in 1619 had laten opsluiten in Slot Loevestein.
