QE2 is the sixth studio album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1980 on Virgin Records. The album was named after the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 . The album contained both original Oldfield compositions as well as two cover versions of pieces recorded by other bands (" Arrival " by ABBA and " Wonderful Land " by The Shadows ).
QE2 is a transitional album for Oldfield between the controlled minimalism of Incantations and Platinum, and the more entertaining, but still prog oriented, "Five Miles Out" and "Crises". 24. Jan. 2012 · By which I mainly mean 'Platinum, 'QE2' and 'Five Miles Out.' Looks like they're going to get the deluxe multi-disc/multi-channel treatment next, and I might need to reevaluate my out of date opinions on them. Like everyone else, I liked 'Tubular Bells' and 'Hergest Ridge' and 'Ommadawn'.
Auf QE2 beginnt Oldfields Taurus-Reihe (erster Titel: Taurus I), die auf späteren Alben mit Taurus II (auf Five Miles Out) und Taurus III (auf Crises) ihre Fortsetzung findet. In den folgenden Teilen der Trilogie werden vereinzelt Themen aus Taurus I aufgegriffen, ansonsten handelt es sich um jeweils eigenständige Kompositionen.
