1. Apr. 1999 · On January 2, 1924, Richard L. Simon and M. Lincoln Schuster opened "Simon and Schuster, Publishers", a small, three-room office in New York City. One of Mr. Simon's aunts was a crossword puzzle enthusiast, and he had heard her say she wished there was a collection of puzzles she could give to a friend.
They continued to live in Manhattan where he was a salesman and later co-founded Simon & Schuster with Max L. Schuster.
