Jerry Jeff Walker (born Ronald Clyde Crosby; March 16, 1942 – October 23, 2020) was an American country and folk singer-songwriter. He was a leading figure in the progressive country and outlaw country music movement. He was best known for having written the 1968 song "Mr. Bojangles".

COUNTRY · 1975. In the early '70s, Walker became a true pioneer of Lone Star-style progressive country. The dusty-throated composer of "Mr. Bojangles" had abandoned Greenwich Village for Terlingua, Texas and never looked back. His vision of cowboy paradise was especially sharp on 1975's Ridin' High.
