Lionheart wurde Ende 1980 von Dennis Stratton (ex-Iron Maiden), Steve Mann (ex-Liar), Rocky Newton (ex-Wildfire), Jess Cox (ex-Tygers of Pan Tang) und Frank Noon (ex-Def Leppard) gegründet. Die Band begann kontinuierlich Shows zu spielen, darunter regelmäßige Auftritte im Londoner Marquee Club.

The drummer’s seat eventually was given to Clive Edwards (Pat Travers, UFO).
