Roy Eldridge was a fiery, energetic trumpeter, the bridge between Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. He was a NEA Jazz Master in 1982 and a NEA Jazz Master Fellow in 1989. He played with many jazz legends, toured with Jazz at the Philharmonic, and recorded for Verve Records.
