The Royal Military Academy (RMA) at Woolwich, in south-east London, was a British Army military academy for the training of commissioned officers of the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers. It later also trained officers of the Royal Corps of Signals and other technical corps .

English: The Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, was a British Army training college for artillery officers and others between the mid-18th century and the Second World War. It was first based at the Royal Arsenal and in 1806 moved to a new building designed by James Wyatt on Woolwich Common.
The Royal Military Academy, Woolwich by Paul Sandby (1731-1809) (Royal Collection) shows the Academy buildings about 1770. Sandby was drawing master at the Academy from 1768 to 1796, retiring a few years before English’s arrival.
