Braff spielte ab den 1940er Jahren in der Gegend von Boston und trat ab 1947 in New Yorker Clubs auf. 1949 spielte er mit der Band des Klarinettisten Edmond Hall im Savoy Cafe in Boston, wo er auch mit Pee Wee Russell spielte. 1953 zog er wieder nach New York City, wo er 1953/54 mit dem Vic Dickenson Septett spielte.

Ruby Braff Ruby Braff (March 16, 1927 – February 9, 2003) was an American jazz trumpeter and cornetist. Braff was renowned for working in an idiom ultimately derived from the playing of Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke. His musical voice, though, was always very much his own.
